Student Linux Users' Group Constitution

Article I: Name
The name of this organization shall be the Student Linux Users' Group. Any reference to "organization" hereafter in this document will be assumed to mean the Student Linux Users' Group.
Article II: Purpose
The purpose of this organization is to provide a learning forum for the UNIX-like operating system Linux, its associated utilities, as well as the Open Source and Free Software movements behind its growth, and advocate their use both inside and outside the university.
Article III: Membership
Section 1: Eligibility
Membership shall be open to all Rutgers University Students and must comply with federal laws prohibiting discrimination on the basis of race, creed, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, age, sex, disability, marital status, familial status, sexual orientation, or veteran status.
This organization shall abide by all applicable laws of the State of New Jersey and the United States.
This organization shall abide by all applicable rules and regulations of the University and under the privileges as granted by Livingston Student Center, the Office of Student Leadership, Involvement & Programs, Deans, and Dean of Students where chartered. This organization shall also abide by the rules and regulations of the Board of Governors, the University, and the colleges as provided by the Board of Governors and the Deans of the Colleges."
Section 2: Officers
The minimum number of officers of this organization shall be a President, Vice-President, and Treasurer. These shall be considered executive officers. Other officers may be named by the executive officers as needed.
a) The President will be responsible for organizing and running all organization meetings. The President shall also be responsible for all actions of the organization and shall serve as the official representative of the organization.
b) The Vice-President shall serve in the absence of the President. The Vice-President shall assist the President and coordinate the efforts of the organizations committees. In addition, the Vice-President shall also manage the organization's web page, and serve as Publicist, designing all fliers and interacting with the Daily Targum.
c) The Secretary-Treasurer shall record all the actions of the organization; handle all financial transactions and records of the organization. The Secretary-Treasurer must also keep an accurate up-to-date list of all voting members and submit it to the Rutgers College Student Activities Office as required.
An officer of this organization can be removed from office, through the process of impeachment. Impeachment proceedings may be brought against any officer of this organization. Grounds for impeachment shall be defined as incompetence, misconduct of duty, mismanagement funds, and omission of duty or violation of this organization's constitution. Two officers of this organization or a quorum of members are required for impeachment. The impeachment will occur during a general meeting. If the president is impeached, the vice president will have the option to succeed to the position of president.
Section 3: Monies
Rutgers College requires that all monies (including but not limited to dues, donations, and student fee allocations) of student organizations registered at Rutgers College and receiving more than 50% of its funding from Rutgers College must keep its funds in the Rutgers College Student Fund Accounting Office. Otherwise, all monies must be maintained in an account at one of the residential undergraduate colleges where it is registered. Organizations must hold their funds at only one college.
The President and Treasurer shall be the only authorized people to withdraw funds.
Article IV: Voting
Section 1: Eligibility
All active members who have attended at least two of the past four meetings shall be eligible to vote on things concerning this organization.
Section 2: Quorum
Quorum for this organization is 50% of the voting members plus one.
Section 3: Officer Elections
Elections shall be held during the first meeting during April, or following a vacancy in an office due to the removal of an officer or for any other reason. Elected officers must be present during the election meeting, or have notified at least two of the current officers of their candidacy. The candidate receiving the most votes for each position will be elected to their respective position.
Article V: Meetings
Section 1: General Meetings
There shall be at least one meeting of the full membership every full month during the academic year. Partial academic months and months when finals occur are not considered full months. The full membership and the public may attend the general meetings.
Section 2: Executive Meeting
There shall be at least one meeting of the Executive Board every month during the academic year. Executive meetings are not open to the general membership except by invitation of one or more Executive Officers.
Section 3: Special Meetings
Special meetings will be held when requested by any of the members of the Executive Board. Special meetings may include any members the Executive Board deem appropriate including the full membership of the organization.
Section 4: Other meetings
Other meetings may be held at the request of any portion of the membership provided at least one Executive Board officer approves the meeting. This Executive Officer or an appointed representative must be present at the meeting and report the results to the Executive Board. These meetings need not be open to the general membership.
Article VI: Amendments to this Constitution
a) Any member may propose an amendment to this constitution. A written copy of the proposed amendment shall be submitted to the Executive Board, which shall give written notification to the membership at the general meeting following the receipt of the proposed amendment.
b) This constitution may be amended by a quorum of the voting membership, provided the amendment was submitted in writing at a previous regular meeting and notice was given to all voting members at least one week before the meeting on the constitutional amendment. The amendment will go into effect after it has been presented to and approved by the Student Activities Office where chartered.
Article VII: Environmental Awareness
This organization shall remain responsible for the ecological consequences of its action and take steps to insure that any of the actions of this organization shall not further adversely affect the environment.
All posters and other paraphernalia used to advertise activities will be removed from the area to which they were affixed after the expiration of said activities.
